SIX The Front Door

You only need one door.

There are fourteen ways an ordinary person can start keeping proof of their own work — a delivery, a scale ticket, a rent payment, a signed job. You don't need all of them. Answer a couple of plain questions and this points you at the one that fits who you already are and what you already do. Then it hands you a first move you can make today, alone, for free.

Question 1

Every door is the same move underneath: co-sign proof at the moment of value, and keep your own copy. Read the “you are” line until you find yourself — then open that door. Ignore the other thirteen; they belong to other people.

The one move, fourteen lives

Underneath every door is the same three-part shape. When something real happens — a delivery, a service, a payment, a weighing — you get the other party to sign what happened, right then, while you're both standing there. You keep that signed record in your own copy, under your own keys — not inside the buyer's, the broker's, or the platform's system. And you measure your own numbers, this month, without asking anyone's permission.

One receipt settles one dispute. A year of receipts is a track record. A track record is what a lender, an insurer, a buyer, or an heir will price on — cheaper, faster, in your favor.

Two honest things before you start

A receipt is evidence, not authority. It does not make you a certified grader, a licensed insurer, a credit bureau, or a court. The inspectors, sureties, certifiers, brokers, and payers who do real work stay in business and stay paid — their judgment is worth paying for. What you take back is not their work. It's the position where the proof of what you did lives in someone else's book, so you have to buy it back or reconstruct it every time it matters. That position is the target. Never the work.

Nothing here needs anyone's permission to begin. Every “start today” step costs you minutes of your own time and nothing else — no platform to join, no capital to raise, no one who has to say yes first. Where a step needs the other party's signature, the step is simply to ask, at the moment of handoff. The ask is the whole entry price.

Learn more — what's a “receipt ledger”?

A receipt ledger is just your own running list of signed receipts, kept under your keys. That's all the phrase means here — the same idea as a shoebox of signed slips, only they can't be quietly changed and both sides signed each one.

About the dollar figures

Each door shows the size of the position it touches — how much money moves through that spot in the economy each year, drawn from named public sources in the Wedge Playbook. These are not what any one person captures, and much of each figure is real work that stays with the people doing it. Where the Playbook marks a number “directional” or notes only a slice is addressable, this tool carries that caution forward. Treat every figure as the scale of the arena, not a promise.
